Sažetak

This paper analyses different types of transmission of the quotations from the Gospels in the Pašman Rule, а Croatian Glagolitic manuscript, containing the oldest known Slavonic translation of the Rule of the Benedictine order. The aim is to find if there are any traces in the Croatian version of the Rule of the first Slavonic translation of the Gospels and its later evolution and also similarity with the Gospel text in the Croatian Glagolitic liturgical books.
In this connection it is important to draw the lines between the different
influences exerted upon the Gospel quotations in the manuscript and the directions they are coming from. The first task is to examine the influence of the Benedictine Rule – the ways in which the Gospel quotations in it are borrowed from the Vulgate. When the text of the Vulgate is rendered correctly, it is an object of interest to find out if there are features, transferred later from the Latin Bible into the Gospel quotations in the Pašman Rule.
The degree of penetration of the features of the contemporary vernacular, the Old Croatian language, is also analysed. For this purpose the comparative method is applied. For the comparison mainly the Codex Marianus and other representatives of the archaic and later redactions of the Gosples are used and also the Croatian Glagolitic manuscripts of Missals, Breviaries and Editio princeps Missal from 1483, illustrating the development of the local tradition of the liturgical books. The results of the analysis show that some elements of the early form of the Slavonic Gospel text are preserved in the Gospel quotations in the Croatian Glagolitic Pašman Rule. On the other hand, the forms of the quotations in its Latin original are also taken into account. Sometimes, when there is a full correspondence between the Latin monastic Rule and the Vulgate, the text of the Gospel quotations in the
Pašman Rule is rendered according to the Vulgate. In some of these cases the correspondent examples are found in the Croatian Glagolitic liturgical books. The Gospel quotations in the Pašman Rule prove also the manifested presence of the Old Croatian linguistic features, in a larger number as compared with the quotations from the Psalter and less when compared with the quotations from the Epistles.
