Glaucium flavum Crantz in the extended environs of Zagreb

At the end of the summer of 1954. I found in the vicinity of the station at Sesvete the plant Glaucium flavum Crantz. This species is reccurent in the Quamer Isles (H a r a c i c, 1905 : 194; Morton, 1915 : 187; M archesetti, 1930:32; Horvatic, 1934 : 132, 1939 : 22), in the Istria (Pospichal, 1897:568; Horvatic, 1948 : 109) as well as along the entire coastal region of our country (Beck, 1901 : 167) while F i o r i (1923—1929, I : 639) among its European habitat stresses its growth in Istria and the coastal zone of Italy. Accordingly, its finding in the environs of Zagreb is very interesting. The plant has been classified among the dunghill, nitrophile vegetation, that flourished on a levelled, gravelled substratum.
With this basis the stand by Zagreb tallies with the stand by which the plant is linked in coastal regions in our country and elsewhere. In our littoral it has entered a special plant community which Horvatic (1934:218) within the class of Ammophiletea has described as a particular association of Euphorbieto-Glaucietum petrosum of the Island of Pag respectively, as one! of the subassociations of the Island of Rab (Horvatic, 1939 : 25). The same community under its first name was later on subordinated by Tiixen (1950 : 100) of the nitrophile order of Euphorbictalia peplis, which comprises the halophile and nitrophile communities of the gravelled Mediterranean littoral and other European seas. The plant is linked to a gravelled basis even in the south of France, where according to Braun-Blanquet (1951:40) it is characteristic of the order Mycirarietalia.
The consecutive finding of this plant in the environs of Zagreb, can be compared with some findings in Italy, where, according to F i o r i (1923—1929, I : 639) the plant is known somewhere, for instance, near Verone as an adventive element in the continental region.
