The paper concerns the oldest preserved version of liturgical books in Church Slavonic composed by Vojtěch Tkadlčík. The so-called 1963 Glagolitic Missal was not offi cially approved and only remained preserved as a typewritten transcript located at the Centrum Aletti Velehrad-Roma Library in Olomouc. The paper shows the textual sources of the Missal, its linguistic properties, making a particular link between the Great Moravian and Czech reduction of the Old Church Slavonic language with subsequent modifi cations in the Czech language, methodology of working on the Missal, but also the underlying circumstances of the historical period which made the Missal approval fail. The paper results from correspondence of Vojtěch Tkadlčík, especially with the chief Missal drafting collaborator, František Václav Mareš.
