Sažetak

In 1970 and 1971 narcissus mosaic virus (NMV) was isolated from the following daffodil cultivars in Yugoslavia: »John Evelyn«, »King Alfred«, »Spring Glory«, »St. Louis« and »Yellow Cheerfulness«. The virus was found in Narcissus plants with mosaic, in those with yellow stripes, and in plants with no symptoms.
Isolate Y from »King Alfred« daffodil was examined by test plants. Observations on host range agreed with those of Brunt (1966). The isolate caused systemic latent infection in Nicotiana clevelandii, local and sometimes systemic necrotic lesions in Gomphrena globosa, and chlorotic local lesions and sometimes systemic intervenial chlorosis in Chenopodium amaranticolor. Besides, it produced chlorotic local lesions on inoculated leaves of Ch. quinoa and necrotic lesions on Ch. murale. Ch. murale was found to be a very susceptible host and useful in isolating the virus from Narcissus sp.
In drop test, sap from Ch. quinoa leaves infected with isolate Y and many other isolates reacted with antiserum to M isolate of NMV (Mowat, 1971) to the serum titre of 1/256. The serum titre with the homologous virus was also 1/256.
This is the first record of NMV in Yugoslavia. Symptoms of yellow stripes were probably caused by narcissus yellow stripe, which remains to be investigated.
