Sažetak

The Viennese painter Karl Rahl (1812- 1865), whose opus is characterized by a desire to recapture the spirit of High Renaissance monumental painting, was also a noted portrait painter, highly thought of and sought after in Austro-Hungarian aristocratic circles, including the family of Count Pejačević and Baron Hillebrand Prandau of Slavonia. From their legacy the Art Gallery acquired 18 paintings by Rahl, of which 13 are portraits. These paintings are described in the article, with stress on their romantic features. The compositions, especially the large painting »Odysseus Among The Phaeacians« demonstrate Rahl's eclectic attitude toward his Renaissance paragons.
