Two rare Flavian coins minted for Galba, found in northern Dalmatia

Sažetak
The article analyzes two coins – unknown so far – found in northern Dalmatia. These are very rare specimens and are therefore rarely described in expert numismatic literature. Both of them belong to the Flavian posthumous emissions of bronze and copper coins for Emperor Galba. The first one is a Vespasian’s commemorative dupondius with Galba’s reverse and the second one is the Titus’ restoration of Galba’s aes. The coins were minted in Rome in 70 AD and 80-81 AD, respectively, and were found at important sites in the areas of ancient Iader and Burnum. Today they are part of the holdings of the Archaeological Museum Zadar. Due to their rarity, such finds can substantially increase our knowledge of the circulation of the coins of Vespasian’s and Titus’ restoration of currency in the Flavian and post-Flavian periods in the Roman province of Dalmatia.
