Sažetak

One of the most frequent bacterial causative
agents of sexually transmitted diseases is Chlamydia trachomatis.
Regarding its clinical course, infection can be manifested
as acute, chronic recurrent and chronic persistent.
More than a half of all infected persons have an asymptomatic
type of infection or very mild subclinical course. Chronic
persistent infection of the lower urogenital tract can also
have an asymptomatic or subclinical course. As clinical entity,
this type has great importance because of its role in maintaining
C. trachomatis infection in the population, especially
in the young, sexually active people. Besides, chronic persistent
chlamidial infection is the cause of various diseases
and complications in the lower urogenital tract. Thus, each
asymptomatic C. trachomatis infection must be treated.
Clearly defined recommendations for antimicrobic treatment
of such infection have not been established yet. Numerous
clinical studies are necessary, as well as the indispensable
cooperation of various medical disciplines dealing with this
problem. The main aim is to find together the solution of
many problems connected with this clinical entity as successfully
as possible.
