Sažetak
The new trends in biotechnology are often well accepted from professional and scientific workers in agronomy. It is believed that all what is offered by science is good and progressive. However, in this article, the response on the intrigant question (in title) will be given through the analysis of scientific bases on which the genetic engineering should be build.
Besides scientific arguments, the newest experiences from relatively short period of GM crops history will be discussed with regards to effects on environment, or what at the moment seems more important, on economic consequences of the new technology application.
