Thomas J. Peters and Robert H.Waterman In Search of Excellence-Lessons from Americas Best-Run Companies, Harper Business Essentials, New York, 2004.

Dina Tomšić ; Zagreb Fair, Zagreb, Croatia

Sažetak

In Search of Excellence is a book on excellence, creativity and leadership. Dealing with many different principles of economics it defines what makes business excellent. It's been twenty-five years since it first appeared in the book stores. Twenty-five years later, this is a book one can learn a lot from. In Search of Excellence has become Tom Peters' legacy, since Bob Waterman went on to other pursuits, enduring enough to establish the importance of enthusiasm, energy, humanity and spontaneity as the counterpoise to the rational approach and related school of management. With In Search of Excellence, the nature of the way we talk about management today is being changed. In Search of Excellence is considered to be the first management blockbuster, since it has been sold in over 6 million copies, and one of the most readable books on management. Beside the practical and scientific value, the authors have used a pleasant narrative style and were eloquent in making their point, so the reader does not need to have any special background knowledge to understand and enjoy the book.
As for the economic diplomacy, I find the book very suitable and convenient, since it deals with a lot intangible factors in real business life, and reveals a great deal of leadership, especially in so called soft skills area, so useful and necessary in the activities of the diplomatic, and especially trade missions.
