Sažetak The concept of Complacency as one of the factors leading to maritime casualties is defined and analyzed in this paper. In that sense, this is an attempt to clearly define and contribute to a complete definition of human error, which is the main cause of most recent maritime casualties, by the meaning and determination of the influential area of the concept mentioned above. The influential area comprises the domains of external and internal communications, style of ship managing, influence of personal attitudes as well as influence of contemporary technology applied to ships. Using real maritime accidents data the authors are trying to estimate the contribution of complacency.
