<abstract xml:lang="hr">
<p>Vodik se s razlogom naziva „gorivo budućnosti” zbog njegovog velikog potencijala u smanjenju emisija stakleničkih plinova. Preduvjet korištenju vodika kao goriva je razvoj tehnologije elektrolizatora i gorivnih članaka. U ovom radu predstavljeno je trenutno stanje u proizvodnji i potrošnji vodika u svijetu. Također, analiziraju se mogućnosti korištenja postojeće infrastrukture za transport i distribuciju fosilnih goriva za integraciju vodika u globalne energetske sustave.

<p>Hydrogen is symbolically called fuel of the future due to its great potential of greenhouse gas emissions reduction. Fuel cell and electrolyzer research and development is a prerequisite to widespread use of hydrogen as a fuel. Current status in production and demand of hydrogen is presented in this thesis. In addition, possibilities of using existent fossil fuel transportation infrastructure for implementation of hydrogen into global energy systems are also discussed.

<label>Uvod</label>
<p>Energetska tranzicija predstavlja transformaciju globalnog energetskog sektora s energije na bazi fosilnih goriva prema niskougljičnoj energiji. Ključna potreba tranzicije je smanjenje emisija stakleničkih plinova iz energetskog sektora i sektora transporta kako bi se usporile klimatske promjene. No, iako je globalna tranzicija već u tijeku, potrebni su dodatni koraci kako bi se efekti izazvani klimatskim promjenama ublažili. Mnoge države, kao i neke političke organizacije uvele su zakonodavne okvire i razvojne strategije, kako bi se dodatno potaknula energetska tranzicija. Jedna od takvih strategija koju je Europska komisija predstavila 2019. godine je i Europski zeleni plan (engl. European Green Deal), okvirni plan koji sadrži mjere za unaprjeđenje učinkovitijeg iskorištavanja resursa prelaskom na čisto „kružno“ gospodarstvo te za zaustavljanje klimatskih promjena i smanjenje onečišćenja. Osim toga, Odbor za okoliš, javno zdravstvo i sigurnost hrane Europskog parlamenta u rujnu 2020. godine usvojilo je izvješće u kojem se zahtjeva povećanje cilja smanjenja emisija stakleničkih plinova s dosadašnjih 50 do 55% na 60% do 2030. godine u odnosu na 1990. godinu (European Parliament, 2020). Ovaj zahtjevniji cilj bi mogao implicirati ozbiljniju namjeru dekarbonizacije teškog transporta i učinkovito zbrinjavanje viška proizvodnje iz nestalnih obnovljivih izvora energije.
	Vodik je najlakši element u periodnom sustavu elemenata i najprisutniji kemijski element u svemiru (Royal Society of Chemistry, 2020). U znanstvenim i političkim krugovima naziva se gorivom budućnosti zbog činjenice da korištenjem u gorivnom članku proizvodi jedino vodu kao produkt reakcije, uz oslobađanje energije. U svijetu se velika većina vodika proizvodi parnim reformiranjem, parcijalnom oksidacijom te autotermalnim reformiranjem prirodnog plina te različitim postupcima rasplinjavanja ugljena, dok se samo manji dio proizvodi plinofikacijom biomase i elektrolizom vode (U.S. Department of Energy, 2020a). Jedan od potencijalnih pokretača energetske tranzicije i globalne dekarbonizacije svakako predstavlja zeleni vodik, odnosno vodik proizveden iz obnovljivih izvora energije. Pridobivanje zelenog vodika je danas tehnički izvedivo te se približava ekonomskoj konkuretnosti. Povećan interes za opskrbu zelenim vodikom primarno proizlazi iz snižavanja cijena proizvodnje obnovljivih izvora energije i izazova koji proizlaze iz mrežne integracije sve većeg udjela varijabilne energije iz takvih izvora. Politika i društvena svijest čine veliki poticaj potrebnim promjenama. Ako nacionalne i korporativne strategije usvoje zeleni vodik kao dio strategije za dekarbonizaciju, tada bi mogao imati ubrzanu primjenu uz spuštanje praga ekonomičnosti. To će omogućiti ulaganje u istraživanje i razvoj, tehnološka poboljšanja te pokretanje pilot projekata. Ono što je također bitno u perspektivi razvoja i primjene zelenog vodika je cijena naknada za emisije ugljikovog dioksida na tržištu.
U ovom radu analizirani su načini proizvodnje vodika u svijetu te trenutno globalno stanje u proizvodnji i potrošnji vodika. Također su analizirane vrste elektrolizatora i gorivnih članaka. Proizvodnja plavog i zelenog vodika prikazani su kroz ekonomski osvrt usporedbom s trenutnim cijenama proizvodnje vodika te njihovim budućim projekcijama. U raspravi je također analizirano dodavanje vodika u postojeću plinovodnu mrežu, potencijal koji ono predstavlja te moguće probleme u implementaciji, zatim mogućnost izdvajanja vodika iz plinovodne mreže te načini skladištenja vodika. Također, ukratko su opisani i načini integracije vodika u energetsku mrežu, primarno kroz P2P (engl. Power-to-power) sustave, transport te iskorištavanje postojeće infrastrukture za eksploataciju ugljikovodika na primjeru Sjevernog Jadrana.
