eng Can IgG Antibodies Directed against Different Targets Solve the Problem of False-Positive Results in SARS-CoV-2 Serology?

Acta clinica Croatica
Vol. 60., No. 4., 2021
In addition to RT-PCR assays, serology testing that has been recognized as a useful
tool to assess the spread of infection in the population is considered successful and important
strategy in the control of the global pandemic of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Now, a great number of
manufacturers offer their serologic tests on the market. When interpretating the results, the rate of
seroprevalence should be taken in consideration because it may influence the positive predictive value,
as well as cross-reactivity with other coronaviruses in case of...

The study aimed to investigate the prevalence and titres of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in children treated at the Children’s Hospital Zagreb in the first and the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Statistical significance of difference at two time points was done to determine how restrictive epidemiological measures and exposure of children to COVID-19 infection affect this prevalence in different age groups.
At the first time point (13th to 29th May 2020), 240 samples and in second time point (24th October to 23rd November 2020), 308 serum...

eng Causes of thrombocytopenia in COVID-19 patients

Medicina Fluminensis
Vol. 58, No. 3, 2022

Vol. 58, No. 4, 2022

Since the first cases of COVID-19 were reported from China the disease became pandemic within a few months. The viral genome was sequenced soon after the outbreak of COVID-19 which enabled development of diagnostic tests and therapeutic options. As the knowledge of SARS-CoV-2 virology increased, many potential drugs appeared. At this moment (January 12th 2021), 4426 studies of COVID-19 are registered, and more than 2680 studies are investigating therapeutic options. This is a short narrative review of currently available evidence on pharmacolog...

The coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a tremendous impact on every facet of private life and work organisation in virtually all social and economic sectors worldwide. People who stand on the first line of defence are healthcare workers (HCWs) risking exposure to infected patients. However, even though they are often affected by COVID-19 and associated somatic and mental health problems, COVID-19 as a new illness was not immediately acknowledged as occupational disease. This is why several groups of HCWs contacted their occupati...

Vol. 64, No. 2, 2020

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It usually presents with mild common cold-like symptoms. However, it can lead to series of complications with some of them being fatal. One of the rare and potentially neglected manifestations of COVID-19 is subacute thyroiditis (SAT). Viral causes of SAT documented so far include several viruses, but according to the newest reports, SARS-CoV-2 should also be added to the list. The median time between COVID-19 dia...

The most common neurological symptoms in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection
are headache, myalgia, encephalopathy, dizziness, dysgeusia and anosmia, making more than 90
percent of neurological manifestations of COVID-19. Other neurological manifestations such as
stroke, movement disorder symptoms or epileptic seizures are rare but rather devastating, with possible
lethal outcome. The primary aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of acute symptomatic
seizures among COVID-19 patients, while secondary aim was to determine their pos...
