Investigation of hydrodynamic interaction between the vessel and the seabed when entering shallow water is considered one of the most critical considerations of inland waterway transport. There are many investigations into the behavior of ships in restricted waters, such as ships traveling in different forms of canal cross-sections. The present study aims to evaluate the hydrodynamic interaction of the 750 DWT Perintis Ship moving through the different canal types to determine the relative effects of limiting the width and depth cross section o...

eng A Study on the Relationship Between Ship Resistance and Trim, Supported by Experimental and Software-Based Analysis
Ziylan, Kerim; Nas, Selçuk
Transactions on Maritime Science
Vol. 11, No. 02, 2022
In this study, towing tank experiments have been carried out for a container ship under different trim-draft conditions. Experimental results have been interpreted together with the results of the Holtrop method used in both Maxsurf and Orca to identify reactions to changing trim conditions. The study has shown that towing tank experiment findings differ from other relevant findings. The ship shows different resistance characteristics under different trim conditions, but generally the least resistance without trim. In addition, the total resist...

In this study, the computational results for KRISO Container Ship (KCS) are presented. CFD analyses are performed to simulate free surface flow around KCS by using RANS approach with success. Also the complicated turbulent flow zone behind the ship is well simulated. The RANS equations and the non-linear free surface boundary conditions are discretized by means of a finite volume scheme. The numerical methodology is found to be appropriate for simulating the turbulent flow around a ship in order to estimate ship total resistance and free surfac...

Vol. 66, No. 4, 2015
This paper discusses the effects of the free surface and the propeller on a benchmark Post-Panamax Ship, Duisburg Test Case (DTC). The experimental results are already available in the literature. The computational study carried out in this work is verified first with the experiments and then used to explain some of the physical aspects associated with viscous ship flows. There are two interesting outcomes of this work. The first one is, the existence of the propeller contributes to the pressure resistance of the ship by increasing the wave ele...

Engineering Review
Vol. 27, No. 2, 2007
