eng Nationalism in Official Tourism Websites of Balkan Countries: A Multimodal Analysis
Houliston, Linda; Ivanov, Stanislav; Webster, Craig
Tourism: An International Interdisciplinary Journal
Vol. 69, No. 1, 2021
This paper investigates the official tourism websites for the Balkan countries of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, and Turkey to learn about their depictions of their nations for an international tourism market. The research combines Pauwels' (2012) multimodal discourse analysis method designed for cultural websites with Smith's (1998) six main institutional dimensions to seek out potential nationalistic patterns involving the state, territory, language, religion...

eng Is the Nation of Citizens a Viable Political Programme?
Miščević, Nenad
Politička misao
Vol. 38, No. 5, 2001
Contemporary French authors have been proposing sophisticated versions of “civic republicanism” and concepts of “civic nation”. The paper critically discusses the most developed proposal by D. Schnapper, who defines nation as an ethnic-neutral community of citizens. It is argued that this proposal does not come to terms with the actual ethno-cultural diversity of typical contemporary states.

eng Why is the "Spirit" of Folk Music so Important? On the Historical Background of Béla Bartók’s Views of Folk Music
Ota, Mineo
International review of the aesthetics and sociology of music
Vol. 37, No. 1, 2006

eng On the Pursuit of a Nation: The Construction of Folk and Folk Music in the Fouding Decades of the Turkish Republic
Degirmenci, Koray
International review of the aesthetics and sociology of music
Vol. 37, No. 1, 2006
U tim gl...

eng Forging Consensus: How Franjo Tuđman Became an Authoritarian Nationalist
Sadkovich, James J.
Review of Croatian History
Vol. VI, No. 1, 2010
If there is a consensus in the literature on the Yugoslav wars of succession, it is that Franjo Tuđman was not merely a nationalist, but an authoritarian nationalist. Few today would doubt that judgment, but prior to 1993, Tuđman’s reputation was more moderate. Tuđman was not simply a nationalist. He had fought with the Partisans; he had written a prizewinning book on partisan warfare and another praising Tito; he had served on the board of Yugoslavia’s Military Encyclopedia; and he had been the first Director of the Institute for the Workers’...

eng The Hegemony of Multiculturalism. A Comment on Will Kymlicka’s Theory of Nationalism
König, Thomas
Politička misao
Vol. 38, No. 5, 2001
The author discusses the theory of liberal nationalism of the prominent Canadian political theorist Will Kymlicka. According to Kymlicka, liberal nationalism is a necessary ingredient of developed liberal democracy, because social justice, deliberative democracy and individual freedom are most efficiently achieved within national political units. Kymlicka defines his theory as liberal culturalism, a doctrinal variety able to unify nationalism and multiculturalism. The author analyses main arguments on which Kymlicka’s theoretical claims are bas...

hrv Jedno moguće sociološko promišljanje o naciji i etnicitetu
eng A Possible Sociological Consideration of Nation and Ethnicity
Mežnarić, Silva
Migracijske i etničke teme
Vol. 3, No. 2, 1987

eng Women, Romance and Romantic Nationalism in Dragojla Jarnević’s Dva pira (Two Wedding Celebrations, 1864) and M. E. Francis’s Dark Rosaleen (1917)
Klepač, Tihana
Studia Romanica et Anglica Zagrabiensia
Vol. 56, No. -, 2011
While the reasons for the choice of a romance novel by the two authors and the positioning
of the genre within the Croatian, and the literary tradition of Irish writing in
English differ, the historical context which motivates the two novels is highly similar.
Namely, the Illyrian revival of the 1830s in Croatia corresponds in spirit and social
atmosphere to the Irish national revival associated with the Home Rule as the two
nations begin their anti-colonialist projects. Under a strong influence of the romantic
nationalism of the day, bot...

hrv ANTIMODERNISTIČKI MODERNIST
eng ANTIMODERN MODERNIST
Kravar, Zoran
Croatica et Slavica Iadertina
Vol. 1, No. 1., 2005
