Profesionalne bolesti, nastale kao izravna posljedica izlaganja štetnostima i opasnostima na radnome mjestu, diljem svijeta i danas predstavljaju velik, ali ne dovoljno prepoznat i uvažen zdravstveni problem te se s razlogom govori o „tihoj epidemiji“. U radu su izneseni relevantni statistički pokazatelji i sažeto izloženi glavni zdravstveni, gospodarski i društveni aspekti ove problematike te globalna strategija njezina rješavanja koju meritorne institucije smatraju najprimjerenijima.
