Sažetak

Milk recording provides acquisition of production data of dairy cattle, sheep and goats that are under selection. Recorded data are the basis for selection and management in dairy herds. In accordance to the ICAR standards the reference milk recording method is A4. If any other method approved by ICAR is used the results should be mathematically corrected according to the reference method. For the milk recording in Croatia, the alternative milk recording methods, AT4 and BT4, are used (HPA, 2009). The cost of milk recording per cow/year highly depends on used recording method. Appliance of AT4 result in cost decrease, regarding the referent method, in amount of 15 – 25%, while appliance of BT4 method decrease costs for 30 – 50% maintaining the adequate accuracy of prediction of animal’s milk production. Analysis of milk recording in Croatia in period from year 2000 till 2009 show that there was no significant changes in total number of cows, while frequency of population under selection control, both on family farms and enterprises, increase in amount of near 100%. On family farms number of animals under milk recording increased for more than 200%, while on enterprises determined increase was in amount slightly less than 100%. In period from year 2001 till 2008 frequency of dairy herds recorded according to the AT4 method decreased, while at the same time, proportional increase of usage of cost more effective BT4 method, enabled by education of breeders by HPA officers, was determined.
