Perspectives of the Republic of Croatia in Cooperation through EUROPOL

Sažetak
Through the creation of a Europol Section within the International Police Cooperation Department of the Criminal Police Directorate in September 2006, the Republic of Croatia has de facto laun-ched the implementation of an international agreement on cooperation with the European Police Office - EUROPOL. Concrete operative achievements on mutual cooperation have become visible since the appointment of the police lia'ison officer of the Republic of Croatia in the EUROPOL Headquarters in March 2008. Taking into consideration the role of EUROPOL as the central EU authoritv in fighting the most serious forms of crime, the author analvses the positive legal basis which regulates the functioning of EUROPOL and gives a comparative view on the Council Decision on the Establishment of the European Police Office which is going to be the legal basis for the future functioning of EUROPOL. Finallv, taking into account the positive legal status of the Republic of Croatia in cooperation with EUROPOL and the significance of the Lisbon Treatv which is going to bring thorough changes to the criminal law basis of the future functioning of the EU, the author presents a short overview of the aspects and significance of the future cooperation of the Republic of Croatia with EUROPOL.
