Compiling the Glossary of Terms Used in Ncts and Related Documents

Sažetak
The co-operation between the Croatian government agencies like customs and police with the international institutions/agencies is based on multilateral and bilateral agreements, some of them having been in force for a number of years, but lately we have to deal with a large number of regulations, directives and guidelines related to the European integration processes and har-monization of law. An important part of this complex process is the translation of documents covering the process and standardization of terms in specific fields, one of them being the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS) based on the computer technology. Although the English language appears to be the lingua franca in the global communication, the customs procedures, especially at the Schengen borders, often rely on the German sources. The paper analyses the German documents covering NCTS and related documents as the source language by using the methods of corpus linguistics and descriptive terminology in order to compile a German-Croatian Glossary of selected terms consisting of more than four hundred entries and subentries.
