Sažetak

New discoveries and cognitions of kinesiology have changed the understanding of kinesiology and the approach to it, which makes kinesiology more important in the application of movements in therapeutic and health purposes. The term «kinesiology» refers to the study of muscles and body in movement, therefore many teachers of physical education, kinesitherapists, physiotherapists, physicians, trainers and fi tness experts use it in that sense.
Today, after it has been used all over the world for more than 40 years, kinesiology has evolved and developed into a large and independent branch of medicine and medical treatment. Many different techniques have been used in treatments in order to improve the health in general, and not only to remove certain symptoms. The idea of the kinesiology’s diversity has been present in everyday life more than ever before. G. Goodheart (1964) and his team of experts in different scientifi c disciplines, and somewhat later A. Bearll, F.
Mahuna, F.J. Thie, J. Diamond and many others have contributed to this idea.
According to the afore mentioned, kinesiology has been considered as a multilateral (holistic) discipline since its very beginning, and with time it has become a part of different subjects and fi elds.
Besides the establishment of certain national associations, the foundation of IASK (International Association of Specialized Kinesiologists) has made a large contribution to its further development, in order to support new ideas and types of kinesiology. At the same time ICAK (International College of Applied Kinesiology) has established its Research Department that develops different research methods in kinesiology, thus enriching kinesiology as a whole.
