Faceted Application of Subject Terminology (FAST) – the new subject access system suitable for web environment

Sažetak
In this paper the author explains the new subject heading system suitable for the web environment. The new Faceted Application of Subject Terminology schema (FAST) is a type of a controlled vocabulary based on terminology and on already established relationships inside the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). This new schema has a simplified syntax and it can be applied with different policies and procedures more oriented towards post- coordination. FAST schema can be used by people with minimal training and experience, and it is compatible with automated authority control. The paper contains examples of FAST headings, together with their explanations (topical, personal name, corporate name, geographic, form (genre) and chronological headings), and it also gives some examples of LCSH and FAST headings together.
