Sažetak

This work deals with the influence of sea water corrosion on shot-peened surface of 5083 aluminum alloy. The shot-peening treatment introduces the compressive stress in the surface layer of metal, thus reducing tensile residual stresses. The second part of this work deals in general with corrosion processes in marine environment. Corrosion processes that attack the aluminium alloys are separated. The alloy specimens 5083 were subjected to the sea water influence for the periods of two and six months. After this operation their strength and hardness were tested. The microstructure of the specimens was also analysed. The test results indicate that the sea water impact on the shot-peened surface of aluminum alloy 5083 is not significant.
