Sažetak
The topic of the paper refers to the development of the traffic system of the City of Virovitica and its traffic subsystems. The City of Virovitica is situated on the northern slopes of the Bilogora mountain
in Podravina area, in the microlocation of the Podravina plain of the Central Croatia. The geotraffic position of the City of Virovitica is defined by its central position on the junction of two routes, state road D-2 and state road D-5. Although the City of Virovitica has a favourable traffic position, still the area of the City and the county is rather isolated in comparison with the wider region and the
Republic of Croatia as a whole, which is shown by the fact that no modern road, or high level-ofservice road, passes through it. The paper analyzes all available documentation related to all kinds of
traffic and presents the existing problems in traffic operation. The greatest problem is still the part of the transit traffic passing through the city in the east-west direction and the lack of new road infrastructure in the city which would create less tension in the daily traffic. On the basis of traffic analysis, diagnosis and forecast, the paper suggests measures for the reduction of traffic jams, with a review of road traffic. It also proposes solutions in road infrastructure and brings a scenario of the development of capital road network with suggestions of realization in stages.
