Informing and Promoting the Fundamental Police Values Through Postal Stamps

Sažetak
With the invention of postal stamp, in the middle of 19th century, the system of communication has been simplified systematically and stamp subsequently gained many other roles such as: a means to promote national heritage, marketing tool and the subject of philately.
A significant numbers of postal administration have been publishing stamps on the police theme in order to inform and educate citizens, but also to raise awareness of the important role police has in the society. On these small formats, which are also called traveling ambassadors of their domestic countries and theme such as police, all important areas and activities of the police are shown. Some of these are: police anniversaries, police day, police marks, traffic safety, police vehicles, international police organizations, guarding state borders, police academies, etc.
According to the law and regulated acts of Universal Postal Union, Croatian Post (public postal operator) the only one has the right to publish postal stamps of the Republic of Croatia. In the last 20 years Croatian public operator has realized several stamps regarding police theme: 27th European Regional Conference of Interpol in Dubrovnik, 10th Anniversary of the Military Police Actions "Thunder" and "Storm", 150th Anniversary of the birth of Ivan Vucetic (fingerprints as symbol of dactyloscopy), etc.
Unlike other marketing media, postal stamp attached to a letter could enter any home or office in any place around the world and show how one area of social functioning, such as police for example, is presented in society. Despite other modern means of communication (telephone, internet, SMS, fax, etc.), for the most of the world's population traditional postal service still stays as the only way of communicating. Therefore, consignment with the postage stamp is far from being retired from the history of human civilization.
