Croatian pauline order and the baroque in Varaždin

Sažetak

Research of the Pauline heritage and its filing done in 1989, within the cultural project of the Zagreb Museum of Arts and Crafts entitled THE PAULINE CULTURE IN CROATIA FROM 1244 to 1786, and the results of individual research published recently and related to the topic, disclosed a significant importance of the Pauline order artistic creativity, particularly its centre in Lepoglava, during their stay in Varaždin. Following the independence of Croatian Pauline province in 1701 this impact was spread across the borders of Varaždin region to other Pauline dominions, particularly to Istria and the Croatian Coast, and to Slovenian and Austrian Styria. The basics of expanding impact of the Pauline culture are historical, social and economic changes. Decrease of the Ottoman conquering of Croatian territories, Reformation and Counter-refor-mation are only a few of historical areas comprising the background of extensive intrusions of the Pauline Baroque culture in the Varaždin environment.
