Sažetak Sheeps on the island of Pag are primarily grown for the production of sheep´s milk which is processed and used in the production of famous full fat hard Pag sheep’s cheese. Nutrition, as well as genotype, is one of the most important factors that affects the amount and chemical composition of the sheep’s milk. Considering the fact that the pasture is the most common food in the annual installments of Pag sheep, the aim of this study was to determine the composition of native vascular flora of the island of Pag rocky pastures. The research was carried out during crop season 2005 and 2006 on the basis of eight experimental plots 30x30 meters, located on the direction from the southeast to the northwest of the island. The existence of 331 plant taxa (296 species, 34 subspecies and 1 variety) within 201 genera and 51 families was determined. Out of total, 287 species were already previously recorded, while 44 species were determined for the first time on the research area. Number of taxa per each sample plot varied between 70-144, and the Jaccard coefficient of similarity between the experimental plots ranged from 0.65 to 0.81. The most represented taxa of the researched rocky pastures belong to the fami¬lies Poaceae, Asteraceae, Fabaceae, Lamiaceae and Liliaceae. Phytogeographical analysis shows that the most represented species belong to Mediterranean floral element (52.6 %). The domination of Hemicryptophyta (37.2 %) is typical for the grassland flora, and high proportion of Therophyta (31.7 %) shows the great influence of the Eumediterranean zone.
