Sažetak

Facts known so far about the life of composer Giuseppe Michele Stratico were the starting point of this paper and the work behind it. They were published in 1990 in the article "Contributions to the biography of Giuseppe Michele Stratico" by Z. Blažeković. According to Blažeković, the first evidence of Stratico’s activity in Sanguinetto was a letter dated May 18th 1763, and the last known information was from September 19th 1782, when he signed a document as vicario.
The research was organised in November and December 2011 in order to find any additional information on Stratico’s life, and maybe even his death, in Sanguinetto (the Parish Church of San Giorgio Martire, local library, Municipal Archive) and in Verona (Archivio di Stato).
The following sources from the parish church in Sanguinetto were examined:
• Books of Baptisms (Nati or Liber baptizatorum), No. 8: 1744-1766, and No. 9:
1766-1783
• the Book of Marriages, No. 2: 1706-1783
• the Book of Deaths, No. 7: 1783-1807.
In the latter book there was a record on Stratico’s death from February 1st, which revealed some new information: that Stratico had died on January 31st 1783 in Sanguinetto, that he died of tuberculosis after just four months of illness, and that he was a member of the Brotherhood of the Holy Sacrament, in whose grave he was buried.
Based on the documents of the Brotherhood in the Archivio di Stato in Verona, one can find Stratico’s signature on all the records from 1760 to 1783, of which 1760 is determined as the year of his arrival in Sanguinetto. Indirectly, one learns that the Brotherhood’s tomb was located near the parish church in Sanguinetto, although the mentioned place does not exist anymore, and is not marked in any way.
Unfortunately, no information was found on music life in Sanguinetto in the second half of the 18th century, which would have eventually cast new light on the music aspect of Stratico’s activity in Sanguinetto. (It is known that Stratico dealt extensively with music theory during that period.)
Although some new and interesting data on Stratico’s life and death has been found, many unanswered questions still remain, which certainly provide an incentive for further research.
