Doprinijeti or pridonijeti – a step towards the truth

Sažetak

One verb – meaning ‘to contribute’ – occurs in modern Croatian in two forms: doprinijeti and pridonijeti. The author uses electronic corpora and dictionaries in order to resolve the question which of the two is to be preferred. A conslusion is reached that doprinijeti is the original form, built on the meaning of underived prinijeti, ‘to offer’.
