Sažetak

Dental status was compared between the pupils who have a school dental clinic performing preventive and therapeutic measures (group), and those who do not have such a clinic (group 2), to assess justifiability of the use of preventive measures in school children.
In group 1, there were 36.3% of children with intact teeth, 63.7% with PCI (person caries index), and 2.5 MCI (mean caries index) teeth. In group 2, there were 11.6% of children with intact teeth, 88.4% with PCI, and 4.0 MCI teeth. In group 1, CET (caries-extracted-treated teeth) distribution was as follows: 27.8% of carious teeth, 67.9% of treated teeth, and 4.3% of extracted teeth. In group 2, CET distribution was as follows: 94.8% of carious teeth, 2.3% of treated teeth, and 2.0% of extracted teeth. Analysis of the same parameters in the children aged 12 years produced almost identical results.Group 1 had a better dental status, more pupils with completely healthy teeth and better CET structure, which was ascribed to the work of the dental clinic for school children. Preventive and therapeutic measures were found to reduce dental morbidity and promote dental/oral health.
