Hygienic Habits of Oral Health Care

Sažetak
The aim o f this study was to determine the relationship between the existing hygienic habits and oral health in a defined sample o f urban population. The sample consisted o f534 subjects, 396 females and 138 males, aged 9-51 years. The sample was stratified as follows: 1/3 from primary schools, H3 from secondary schools and 1/3 from high schools and colleges from Zagreb. The method o f questionnaire, from which 7 questions were submitted to secondary data processing, was employed. An insight into the relationship between individual variables was allowed by the method o f variable crossing in two-entry tables. Results are shown in tables and graphs. Statistical processing was also performed. The following conclusions were reached: 1. A question on personal habit o f washing the teeth as crossed with a question asking when the teeth should be washed pointed to inconsistency o f the answers: most subjects stating the teeth should be washed 3 times daily declared themselves to do it
twice daily. The subjects were found to quite poorly mask their bad habits. 2. Poor hygienic habits were found to be evenly distributed in all subjects, regardless o f the level o f education. 3. It should be noted that the subjects were found to be aware o f the need o f tooth washing, which appears to be an encouraging sign in defining the activities aimed at improving the level o f recognizing the need o f regular and correct oral hygiene.
