Sažetak The period discussed in this article began with the death of Herod the Great in 4 B.C. and closed with the end of the Second Jewish Revolt in a.d. 135. This was the period in which John the Baptist, Jesus, and His apostles lived and carried out their public ministry. All of these men were Jews who lived in Palestine. Consequently Jewish history during this period is of primary significance for an understanding of New Testament Christianity. First-century Judaism constituted the environment into which Christianity was born.
