Natural regeneration of common beech and bitter oak stands after fire in management unit „Perjasička kosa“

Sažetak
Forest ecosystems in continental area are very often exposed to fires which cause economic and ecological damage for which there are no developed models of treatment and regeneration as in the Mediterranean forests. This paper explores the problems of regeneration of burnt areas of common beech and bitter oak in management unit „Perjasička kosa“. The area is subjected to fast habitat degradation due to common forest fires. During the first year of observation, the natural regeneration of areas with and without sylviculture work according to species, number and height class was monitored. According to the measured results, the changes in the distribution of species, successful regeneration of bitter oak natural shoot and unsuccessful tending by using the coppicing method were noticed, as well as the natural regeneration of beech natural shoot in older stands.
