Sažetak

The term competence refers to the ability of applying knowledge and skills of the teachers working under existing labor standards. Self–assessment of competence helps adult educators to become aware and discover challenges in certain areas/standards of the andragogical model of competence. The goal of the research was to determine how teachers in adult education asses competence within the model of competence which includes six standards: (a) support program goals and responsibilities, (b) provide a positive adult education–learning environment and promote lifelong learning, (c) plan, design, and deliver learner–centered instruction, (d) assess learning and monitor progress, (e) the use and application of new technologies and (f) maintain knowledge base and pursue professional development. In this paper we comment the results obtained on the self-assessment scale of andragogical competences for 250 teachers working in adult education institutions regarding the: gender, years of working experience, type of institution in which teacher works, formal education and participation in professional development. Results obtained by this research will be used in development of professional training of the teachers involved in adult education in order to help them to raise their level of andragogical competence.
