Sažetak

The position of the tongue when taking an impression for prosthesis
plays an important role in the shaping of the lingual portion of the
neutral space. An attempt was made to point to the differences in the
size and appearance of plaster of Paris casts for lower toothless jaws
of the same platients. The dependence of casts on the position of the
tongue has been confirmed also by measurements in millimeters. The
differences in the arithmetic means of the values obtained for lingual
sulcus depths, tested by Student's test, were found statistically significant (t = 3.21, P < 0.01). The symphisial vertical sections also showed a statistically significant difference depending on the position
of the tongue (t = 2.72, P < 0.02). The difference in the front transversal sections was statistically significant (t = 2.54, P < 0.05 for the left side and t = 2.70, P < 0.05 for the right side). There was a statistically significant difference in the back transversal sections as well (t = 2.74, P < 0.02 for the left side and t = 2.70, P < 0.05 for the right side). The measurements were made by photogrammetry. Although photogrammetry is primarily a geodesic method, it is becoming increasingly more popular in dental medicine. This simple and safe method is now a method of choice because of its speed and economy.
