The System of Prevention and Fighting Counterfeit Money in the Republic of Croatia

Sažetak
This paper presents a system for the prevention and countering counterfeiting of currency in the Repu-blic of Croatia. The backbones of that system are international and national laws and regulations. The role of the Croatian National Bank as one of the subjects of this system and its activities in the national and international environment through the National Counterfeit, National Analysis and Coin National Analysis Centres are thoroughly presented. Particular emphasis is placed on preventive measures ta-ken by the Croatian National Bank in the framework of the National programme for training of em-ployees of banks and financial institutions on procedures of checking banknotes and coins on authen-ticity and the reactive actions of the National Counterfeit, National Analysis and Coin National Analysis Centres in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Croatia through prompt classification, processing and analysis of counterfeit banknotes and coins and the delivery of information on their occurrence and technical characteristics to all relevant institutions within the country and abroad.
