Sažetak
The authors examined 175 children 3— 5 years of age of 3 kindergartens in Zagreb. A t the same tim e a survey was carried out among the parents of the children. According to the ir answers the children were divided into a group of 76 who up to the age of 3 years
had been in a nursery home during the day, and another group of 99 children who only from 3 years on had been in a kindergarten. The caries index of the firs t group was 4,7 dmf surfaces and that of the second one 8 dmf-s perchild, a difference of 70%. The statistica l significance of this difference is p<0,001. Investigations of the diet
in the nursery home showed it ’s diversity and the caloric quality of the meals. The authors feel that the difference of the caries occurence between the 2 groups may be attributed to theso facts and to the firm e r consistency of the food in the nursery home.
