Sažetak

In the introduction the conclusions of the Second International Conference of Endodontists of 1958 are mentioned by the authors. The basic principles adopted at this meeting were as follows: 1. The work must be done in aseptic conditions. 2. Instrumentation should be limited to the root canal. 3. Instrumentation should be started by means of a thin instrument without using force. 4. The root canal must be properly widened. 5. The root canal should be rinsed with an antiseptic solution in the course of instrumentation. 6. Antibacterial medicaments must not irritate the peri-apical tissue. 7. Fistulas do not require special treatment. 8. Previous to filling a root canal, a negative bacterial culture must be obtained. 9. The root canal must be hermetically closed. 10. The material for the filling of the rot canal must not irritate the apical tissue. 11. If an acute alveolar abscess is present, drainage must be undertaken. 12. Infiltration anaesthesia must be avoided in the infected area. 13. A careful selection must be made of the cases suitable for conservative endodontic treatment. Subject of demonstrations were the problems encountered ad 9. and 10. of the endodontic principles mentioned. The necessity of hermetic closing of the root canal is briefly explained, being the final phase of the endodontic treatment. Subsequently the well known methods of filling the root canal are briefly mentioned. The individual phases of work are demonstrated, on an extracted tooth using the so-called method of »Three-dimensional obturation of the root canal by means of compression« and indications are given for the application of this method. Concluding the authors report on own experiences with this method covering a seven-year period.
