Sažetak Life is full of uncertainties, which give rise to anxiety in people. People therefore have always been searching for the ways to get rid of them and to live normally. Certain safety can be achieved through either rational or irrational means. However, it turned out that for a man the best solution, if possible, is to combine them. Contemporary interest in magic could partly be interpreted as a reaction to the rationalism and positivism. In this paper a mental disposition towards magic is not treated from the evolutionist point of view, i. e. as a lower stage in the development of human thought, peculiar to tribal and rural communities of the past. It is considered be an aspect of conscience that can appear at any time.
