Sažetak

Two hundred and forty-two mycologic cultures served for the investigation of the incidence of Candida and Rhodotorula in the root communicating with the oral cavitö and in the granulation tissue in parodontitis apicalis chronica granulomatosa. The material consisted of tissue from 121 root canals and 121 apical granulations. The material was cultivated on Saboraud's agar at a temperature of 27° C. The identification was done by the customary technique of assimilation, fermentation, use of malt extract and corn-meal agar. The results showed the incidence of Candida in the root canal to be 14.88% (18 cases out of 121) while it was not once isolated from the granulation tissue. Rhodotorula was isolated from the canal in 7.44% (9 out of 121 cases) while it was isolated from the granulation tissue in 2.48% (8 out of 121 cases). In three cases identificationn from the root canal was not done, while in the others Rohodotorula mucilaginosa was found. Distribution according to sex showed Candida being more frequent in the female sex and Rhodotorula in males. With regard to the type of the tooth, distribution was equal, i.e. incisors, premolars and molars were equally affected, expressed by hi square test. The finding of the flora in the root canal and in the granulation tissue of various teeth in the same subject and in various root canals of the same teeth does not necessarily have to be identical.
