Sažetak

The rescue excavations of the AS 1 Grabrić site on the route of the A13 motorway, section Vrbovec 2 Junction – Farkaševac Junction yielded the remains of a prehistoric and a mediaeval settlement. The infrastructure of the Late Bronze Age settlement consists of oval pits and numerous post-holes pointing to above-ground structures, to which one can add ditches that can presumably be interpreted as the remains of fences. The identifiable ceramic forms include fragments of biconical pots with flaring faceted rims, rounded bowls with slanting grooved rims and high-handled cups, dated to the Ha B phase, i.e. to the younger Urnfield culture. A few of the structures date from the Late Middle Ages. Their fills yielded ceramic shards that can preliminarily be dated between the 13th and 15th cent.
Taking into consideration the size of the excavated surface, the results of the investigations suggest that the settlement must have played an important role in the habitation network of north-west Croatia, all the more so as it had occupied an exceptionally favourable position on the communication connecting the upper Posavina region with the Križevci-Koprivnica area on the one hand and the Bjelovar-Bilogora region on the other.
