IMPACT OF HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT ON PERCEPTION OF ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE IN CROATIAN CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES

Sažetak

Business performance is a complex concept reflected not only in financial reports, but also in qualitative variables (Vrdoljak Raguž, 2010). Financial indicators focus on results in previous periods, while qualitative variables describe the infl uence of non-material factors on adjustment to changes in business environment. Since non-material factors are attributed to employees, human resources management
(HRM) becomes the key determinant of business performance. Focus of this Research has been on the relationship between relevant HRM activities and a chosen qualitative indicator – how HR managers perceive organizational performance. Research was conducted on the sample of 1/3 middle-sized construction Companies in Croatia. Data were described by using standard measures of descriptive statistics. Special emphasis was placed on reaching conclusions about dependencies between variables based on estimated correlation coefficients. Statistical models were built by using multiple linear regression. Results show that perceived performance mostly depends on:
- adequacy, quality and quantity of training programmes for employees,
- the system of collecting and access to business information,
- efficiency of knowledge transfer in terms of learning from Business
partners.
Since HRM in Croatia is relatively underdeveloped and previous research showed that there is a need for further research and growth on this subject (Pološki Vokić i Vidović, 2008), this paper tends to provide its own scientifi c contribution to the transformation of HRM from an operative into a strategic business tool.
