Bridge over the Rijeka Dubrovacka

Sažetak

Preparations for construction of the bridge over the Rijeka Dubrovacka are described and a historical overview of its construction is given. Basic characteristics of the first conceptual design and of the final bridge design are provided. The author presents drawings (accompanied with descriptions) of all major parts of the load bearing system: cable stay system, pylon, prestressed portion of the system, pier, abutments, etc. Essential elements of complex calculations performed for this bridge are presented. The bridge construction is also described. In conclusion, viewpoints regarding contribution of such structures to the building profession, and also to the general advancement of science, are given.
