Application of Two-Frequencies Bathymetry in Determination of Travertine Layer

Sažetak

The combination of echo-sounder with GPS was used for lake bottom exploration at the location Prošćansko jezero in Plitvice Lakes National Park. Two frequencies were used for bathymetric measurements: high frequency (210 kHz), which reflects from the bottom, and low frequency (33 kHz), which penetrates the upper travertine layer and reflects from the bottom bedrock. The methodology applied in this research yields the exact threedimensional position of the lake bottom including the thickness of travertine layer. The goal of this paper is to describe the application of the latest satellite and acoustic technology in threedimensional modeling of the Prošćansko lake bottom and in monitoring of travertine formation dynamics. Through the series of repeated measurements, this research, as the basis for other scientific disciplines, shall give the new insights about the prevention of eutrophication of Plitvice lakes.
