Sažetak

The agrarian and rural nature of the
surroundings of Zagreb are going through
a pronounced change.
The City of Zagreb, as the leading urban
and industrial centre of Croatia, strongly
attracts and absorbs the population of its
nearest surroundings.
From 1961 to 1991 the agrarian
population in the Zagreb County
decreased from 102,884 to 26,423 persons.
In 1961 the percentage of the agrarian
population was rather high, but in 1991 it
was only 16 per cent. The pronounced
decrease of the agrarian population in the
county has resulted in its urbanization.
Although the City of Zagreb itself grew
very fast, between 1961 and 1991 the
population increase in the county was
only 4 per cent, and between 1961 and
1971 there was even a population
decrease of 2.7 per cent.
