Approach to and Possibilities of the Development of Island Agriculture

Sažetak
The National Programme for Island
Development, as a strategic plan of the
Croatian government, is designed to
develop agriculture as one of the basic
economic activities on islands. The author
discusses the approach to the development
of this kind of agriculture, analyzes
possibilities for its realization, and
suggests instruments and measures to
encourage it. Agriculture is not an
autonomous branch of the economy. It is
closely integrated into the natural
environment and economic structure of an
area, and depends on social and economic
development and changes. This integrated
environment must be borne in mind when
development is planned and measures
undertake to realize it.
