The paper, here edited from the archives of the late historian of Hvar R. Bučić (1874-1951), brings to light numerous data on ships owned by the inhabitants of the Commune of Hvar from the 9 th to the 19 th centuries. They illustrate the paramount importance that maritime trade and fishing once had for these islanders.
