The Role of Pharmacist in the Treatment and Management of Parkinson’s Disease

Sažetak
Treatment of Parkinson’s disease is complex and lifelong. Successful treatment requires a continuous and open collaboration between a patient and all members of the health care team, particularly physicians and pharmacists. This material was created by reviewing the available literature and numerous studies, and its goal is to provide pharmacists with the latest information on treatment and therapy of Parkinson’s disease, advantages and disadvantages of certain groups of drugs, identification of adverse drug effects, and on the correct dosage of medications. Special emphasis is placed on identifying the responsibilities and roles of pharmacists in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, which consists of the early recognition of symptoms, monitoring the effectiveness of therapy and patient compliance, patient education about expected adverse drug effects, conversation with patients about their treatment and follow-up. In addition, the aim is to encourage pharmacists to take a more active role in solving problems in the treatment, which could significantly contribute to improving the health and the quality of life of people suffering from Parkinson’s disease.
