The continuation of conservation work at Vrbovec castle in Klenovec Humski in 2013

Sažetak
In 2013 the Institute of Archaeology continued with conservation work at the Vrbovec castle in Klenovec Humski. The work focused on the western perimeter wall of the castle core, which is joined in the north and incorporated into the castle hall, that is, its ground-floor room; in the central part it encloses the courtyard, while in the south it is joined with the massive defence tower. This portion of the perimeter wall of the castle core was extremely damaged in its middle part by the roots of trees and by soil erosion. Our approach in the conservation was aimed at recovery and consolidation, without any reconstructions and additions. Walls were grouted and a course of stones was erected in order to create a protective cap. In doing so, we fully respected the original method of construction.
With each season of conservation work at the fortified town we have to reconsolidate certain segments, which is a recurrent problem at the site. In the zone of the castle hall, we repaired certain segments of partition walls, which, due to the loose bedrock on which they were built, were damaged over the past few years due to unfavourable weather conditions.
