Sažetak

The objective of this review is to present research on the impact of great cormorant on the fish stock and aquaculture in order to advance knowledge of the problem.
In recent years, there has been an increasing awareness of the effect of fisheries on bird populations, and vice versa. One of more prominent conflicts is that between cormorant (Phalacrocorax species) and inland fisheries and aquaculture. In the continental part of Croatia, great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis) is a widespread species. Its number has increased considerably during the last three decades in the whole of Europe. Because of feeding behaviour, cormorant cause a huge direct and indirect damage to fish farms and inland waters. Data relating to Croatia are insufficient which leaves great opportunities for future research of this very important issue.
