Sažetak
Researching only a small portion of the Old Fund in the Library (Naučna Biblioteka) in Rijeka, we wanted to point out not only the importance of the library as such, but also a culturological aspect of the treasury of books, which had been donated and received by legacy for the future generations, and which witness »de visu« of a mode of identity and continuity of the city. It is not only important WHAT we have, but WHY we have, which is in nuce an educational aspect. Bibliology is in the first place bibliognosia, which does not exist for its own sake; it exists for information, and that makes a crucial factor of primary CARE for culture and spiritual future concerning the community of the city. To care about books means to care about an integral part of the spiritual side of man, a means of the struggle against the fall into the spiritual barbarianism.
