Twentieth anniversary of the Krk - mainland bridge

Sažetak

The paper marking the twentieth anniversary of completion of the bridge linking mainland with the island of Krk describes the sequence of events leading to realization of this bridge. Various design solutions for the crossing between the mainland and the Krk island are presented. A review of biggest concrete arch bridges built worldwide is provided. A brief presentation is given of the bridge with the largest arch span, built in 1997, and it is emphasized that, considering the structure of its cross section and the realization method, the Krk bridge has not as yet been surpassed. Major participants in the preliminary work, design and construction of the bridge are also mentioned.
